CONFERENZA | LECTURE

RETROFITTING POSTWAR ARCHITECTURE
The case of public schools in Quebec (Canada)

di : CAROLE DESPRES (univ. Laval_Quebec);

The conference focuses on the challenges confronting architects in Quebec as they endeavor to modernize the infrastructure
inherited from the post-war 'Golden Age'. This period was characterized by an economic and demographic boom, resulting in
the construction of buildings between 50 and 80 years ago. Now reaching the end of their initial lifecycle, these structures
demand not only rejuvenation of their physical elements and systems but also a reconceptualization of spaces to meet evolving
 needs. Within a precarious economic landscape and amidst pressing sustainability imperatives, such investments allow little
margin for error. The conference aims to explore how architects can tackle these multifaceted challenges, effectively leveraging
the legacies of the past to meet future needs.
